Two Players Who Could Join Man Utd…

Could he be the man for us next summer?

In the summer of 2012, two players could join Manchester United on a free transfer. There has been much speculation about Samir Nasri and Daniele De Rossi this summer however with both of their contracts set to end on 30th June 2012 could they join United on a free transfer in a years time?

Samir Nasri has been heavily linked with both Manchester clubs this summer however according to the Arsenal hierarchy Samir Nasri won’t move this summer. Arsene Wenger said almost two weeks ago:

“I’m willing to keep him for another year, even if it means we risk losing him for nothing in a year’s time. I think the board agrees with me as it is a technical decision.”

It seems that the Arsenal board does agree. Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood reiterated this stance only yesterday:

“It is possible we could lose the player on a free transfer but we are prepared to take that risk.”

From an outsider’s view it looks like Arsenal are hoping that next season will be trophy laden and that this would be enough to persuade Samir Nasri to stay and sign a new contract. Personally I very much doubt Arsenal’s title credentials, especially if they lose Cesc Fabregas this summer as they are expected to. There are no players in the current market who can replace Fabregas’ quality like for like.

My verdict is that Arsene Wenger has been known to be a stubborn man in the past. I wholeheartedly believe that he will not let Samir Nasri leave this summer and by the looks of it, leaving next summer on a free transfer seems quite likely.

Daniele De Rossi is a personal favourite of mine. He has been linked to Manchester United in the past and continues to be to the present day. With AS Roma spending big this summer, Daniele De Rossi could be persuaded to stay however he and the club have been in contract talks since around March and there has still been no conclusion.

The reason for this is because Daniele De Rossi’s wage demands are hefty. It is thought that he is wanting around €7million a year, demands that Roma are unwilling to offer. With Roma director Walter Sabatini only recently saying that Daniele De Rossi is untouchable and that he will never be on the market as well as saying he’d risk losing him in a year than let him go today, it is clear what Roma’s stance is on a transfer this summer.

Roma have already spent a lot of money this summer and will continue to. Roma’s stance on selling Daniele De Rossi this summer means that a transfer for whoever is interested is a non-starter. If both club and player cannot agree on a new contract any time within the next year, he will leave on a free transfer next summer. Although his wage demands are steep, since there will be no transfer fee involved in a years time, if Manchester United are genuinely interested in De Rossi as reported, I am sure we would jump at the chance to sign him.

Would signing either Nasri or De Rossi next summer on a free transfer satisfy you? Which player do you prefer? Feel free to comment below.
